Hypnotherapy for Depression
It's not uncommon to feel low at certain times, as a natural response to the ups and downs of everyday life. Most people find these feelings usually pass with a little time.
Depression, however, is much more than a low feeling, it can interfere with daily life and normal functioning. It can cause pain for both the person with depression and those who care about him or her.
Often it is referred to as “depressive disorder,” or “clinical depression.” Most people who experience depression need treatment to get better.
I wanted to talk about it. I wanted to scream. I wanted to shout about it. But all I could do was whisper "I'm fine".
How can Hypnotherapy help with Depression?
Depression is a mental illness that affects the way a person thinks, feels and behaves – it can be debilitating because it drains all of a sufferer's energy. There are different types of depression so it is important to speak to your doctor for a diagnosis of your depression. Most people with depression usually experience low moods, loss of interest and pleasure, guilt, tiredness and poor concentration. This is a serious condition that affects people on a daily basis; hypnosis can be beneficial in helping someone overcome depression because it helps them gain control of their thoughts and feelings again.
If you have spoken to your doctor about depression then you may have been offered medication to help with the symptoms. It is important that you follow your doctor's advice with depression as it can become severe. Medication alone, however, will not help you understand the cause of your depression or help you treat the underlying issues. This is where hypnotherapy can support your recovery to feeling more in control and back to feeling good in yourself.
What happens in a hypnotherapy session for depression?
Hypnosis is a treatment that works with the subconscious mind to help bring about positive change. The hypnosis process is very pleasant and relaxing. Hypnosis is a natural state in which you are able to focus your mind. A combination of hypnoanalysis and hypnotherapy has been found to be an effective treatment in helping people recover from depression. Hypnoanalysis helps uncover the reasons behind your depression and hypnotherapy and NLP techniques can help you release trapped emotions, limiting beliefs, and supports new behavioural patterns that aid your recovery.
While hypnotherapy should not replace medical treatments it can certainly help people experiencing depression to feel better about themselves and increase their self-esteem. Hypnosis is a safe way of helping an individual gain control over their mental health.
